Athens, January, 2024

“Athens, January 2024” is a photographic project that attempts to observe and trace the elements that shape the social identity of Athens.

As an Athenian studying away from the city, each return became an opportunity to look again— to notice, to reframe, and to reconsider what defines it. The project focuses on an observational process and visual documentation of Athens’ unfolding stories. The photographs were taken over the course of one month – January, as I moved through the city’s everyday routes with my camera always in hand.

The series is loosely divided into three parts: the streets of Athens, its central market, and its public transportation system. These thematic paths highlight different objects, social forms, and patterns of interaction—elements that collectively contribute to the city’s tempo.
